Feedback & Suggestions

Everyone using the toolkit can help shape it. Any signed-in user — reception staff, practice admins, or clinicians — can suggest new features, propose improvements, report bugs, or flag symptom content that could be better, all without leaving the app.

Where does my message go?

The first thing the suggestion form asks is who your message is for, because different messages go to different people. Nothing is pre-selected — the rest of the form only appears once you’ve chosen a destination, and your practice’s own teams are listed first:

Who is it for?Use it forWho receives it
Your practice’s toolkit administratorsNew or amended local guidance, symptom content, or services in your practice’s own toolkitThe admins at your own practice who look after your toolkit content
Your practice’s management or clinical teamQuestions about your own practice’s policies, procedures, or clinical processes (for example triage or safeguarding arrangements)Cannot be sent from this form. The form explains this and asks you to contact your practice manager or clinical lead directly, in your practice’s usual way
The Signposting Toolkit teamFeature requests, improvements, and bug reports about the toolkit software itself — not about your practiceThe national Signposting Toolkit development team

The suggestion form never sends anything to your practice’s managers, safeguarding leads, or clinicians — so please don’t use it for questions meant for them, and never include patient details.

Submitting a suggestion

There are three ways to open the suggestion form:

  • Navigation panel — open the menu and choose Suggest a feature (near Preferences at the bottom).
  • Help & Documentation panel — a Suggest a feature button sits in the panel footer.
  • Any symptom page — the existing Suggest an improvement action, which pre-selects your practice’s toolkit administrators as the audience and links your suggestion to that symptom.

For toolkit feedback, choose a type:

TypeUse it for
Feature requestSomething new you’d like the toolkit to do
ImprovementMaking an existing feature work better
Bug reportSomething that looks broken or behaves unexpectedly

Feature requests, improvements, and bug reports need a short title plus details. Local guidance suggestions need the symptom or guidance area they’re about (filled in automatically when you start from a symptom page). The page you were on is captured automatically so the reviewers have context.

Tracking your suggestions

Every suggestion you submit appears on your My suggestions page — open the navigation menu and choose My suggestions (just below “Suggest a feature”), or follow the link in the confirmation message when you submit. Each item shows:

  • Its status — Pending, Under review, Planned, Done, or Declined
  • Any response from the Signposting team, with the date it was written

Knowing when you’ve had a response

When the Signposting team responds to one of your suggestions:

  • A ”… new” badge appears next to My suggestions in the navigation menu, showing how many unread responses you have.
  • On the My suggestions page, answered items carry a “New response” badge and the response itself is highlighted until you’ve seen it.

Once you’ve visited the page, the badges clear — they’ll return if the team updates their response.

Who reviews what

  • Symptom content suggestions are reviewed by your practice admins in the Signposting settings Suggestions tab, as before — the tab shows a badge with the number of pending suggestions, so new ones are easy to spot.
  • Feature requests, improvements, and bug reports go to the Signposting team, who triage them centrally, set statuses, and respond directly to submitters.

Suggestions sent to the wrong team

Sometimes a message sent to the Signposting Toolkit team turns out to be about a practice’s own toolkit — a local service that has changed, or content only that practice’s admins can amend. Rather than declining it, the Signposting team can redirect the suggestion to the practice’s own toolkit administrators:

  • The suggestion moves to the practice admins’ Suggestions tab as a new pending item, marked “Redirected from the toolkit team”, and counts towards the tab’s pending badge.
  • The submitter sees it on their My suggestions page with its original type, a “Passed to your practice’s administrators” badge, and a short note from the Signposting team explaining the hand-over.
  • From there the practice admins review it exactly like any other local suggestion.

Nothing is lost in the hand-over — the suggestion keeps its text, its submitter, and its history.
